Exclusive Interview With Recording Artist “Quest”
Quest is a 21 year old rising California artist who works on his craft daily. Quest is an artist who is very versatile in his style of music and discography. Songs like “Stay High” and “Vengeance feat. 100 Kufis”, are songs that have gotten him attention on the YouTube rap scene.
What first got you into music?
I got into making music because I was kicked out of my high school football team for choosing to go get training that was out of town for a job to help my family instead of going to summer workouts. I took it very harsh and created music as a way to express myself.
Who inspired you to make music?
Dax is the person who inspired me to make music. I spoke to him a few times about it when I first started and he encouraged me to keep going.
How would you describe the music that you typically create?
I make music with meaning. I use wordplay and various flows throughout my music to tell a story. I don’t see myself as an artist who speaks on the same subjects over and over again because there are so many things that can and should be talked about through music.
What is your creative process like?
My creative process is really based on when I’m inspired by things going on in my life. Once I’m inspired I can crank out a whole song in 45 minutes or I like to take more time with it if the subject is one that needs to be talked about. I’ll sometimes sit on the end of a verse for weeks cause I want to make sure every piece of the song is the way it needs to be heard.
Who would you most like to collaborate with?
My dream collaborations are Eminem, Joyner Lucas, MGK and Dax. These artist are my main inspirations.
If you could go open a show for any artist who would it be?
I’d love to open up for Tech N9ne or Dax.
What is the best advice you’ve been given?
The best advice I’ve been given is just “work harder than your hardest because its always people working to get past your level” I live by that.
If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?
If I could I’d change the way music is looked at in the industry. There’s not enough substance in the hottest artists music.
