Who is Jayo Cortez?

Jayo Cortez is a multifaceted artist who loves to create. “I pride myself on being versatile and being able to adapt to any situation. I’m certainly not afraid of being different and I find comfort in stepping out of my comfort zone.” ~ Jayo Cortez.
Jayo Cortez is West-Coast Bred and grew up watching videos from artists like Jay Z and Tupac, which who inspired an interest in music for Jayo Cortez. He would go on to pen his first rhyme at the age of 5 years old and then by the time he was 17 years of age, he released his first mixtape brimming with West-Coast flavor. As he developed and pursued his rap career, he has released numerous visuals, along with a few music videos thus far. The most popular videos to date are “Big Dawg Talk” and “Love Song.” Jayo Cortez has performed at various venues, including the popular downtown Los Angeles venue, “The Novo” with beats and lyrics that send you on a metaphoric journey. Jayo Cortez eats, sleeps, and breaths music. He has gained an appreciation for all different types and genres of music. He is always on the grind and thus has established “GIANTS” Records in 2018 in order to be able to have creative control over his music. As a result his debut album called “22:6” was released in 2019 with every song on that project being written and produced by himself, JAYO CORTEZ. His debut album “22:6” has garnered over 100K streams to date and to commemorate this milestone with his fans he released a single, titled “100K.” Jayo Cortez is always creating and releasing new music and has collaborated with many artists, one being the legend from the West-Coast “The Game” who you can find Jayo Cortez on “The Game’s” latest-released mixtape, titled “Who Got Game” to who you will find Jayo Cortez on track #3 spitting nothing but fire on this up-beat tempo song, and that song is titled “Cash Rules.” You also will be able to find “The Game” on Jayo Cortez upcoming project, soon to be released album in late July, 2020, titled “It’s JUST DIFFERENT.” To keep up with Jayo Cortez you can follow him on Instagram (@JayoCortez), or newly released website JAYOCORTEZ.com, as well as being on the look out for his newest project (second album) to be released later on in July 2020 titled “It’s JUST DIFFERENT.”

Who would you consider your influences in the music industry?

As far as music goes, Kendrick Lamar, Stevie Wonder, Drake, Pharrell Williams, and 2pac have had the most impact on me as an artist. I study these guys to try and figure out what makes them so great. Jay-Z has been the biggest influence to me when it comes to handling the business side of music. Jay-Z created the blueprint for every artist after him, on the right way to move as an artist/businessman.

What would you consider you biggest accomplishment thus far in my career?

Self-producing my entire debut album titled “22:6” was the biggest accomplishment for me. I was able to create my own sound and do everything exactly how I wanted. That’s why when you hear my music, it’s hard to compare me to other artists. I’ve created a lane for myself and it has separated me from all other artists.

What legacy would you like to leave behind for yourself?

When it’s all said and done, I want to go down as one of the greatest artists to ever hit the scene. Not just because of my music, but also because of what I’m going to do outside of music. I plan on using my platform to help better and empower people in every way possible.

Where do you see yourself in the music industry in the next 5 years?

In 5 years I see myself on top of the game. I see Jayo Cortez being a household name and my label G.I.A.N.T.S Records will be on its way to being one of the most powerful labels in the industry.

Any Shout outs?

First I want to give thanks to God, cause without him none of this is possible. And secondly I want to shout out my family and the entire G.I.A.N.T.S Records team! Lastly, I want to show my love and appreciation to all the fans out there! Thank y’all for all the love and support you show me!
